From sunflower to skincare: the biobased story behind Azepur99®
Sustainability claims are easy to make and hard to prove. That is why we prefer to talk about the supply chain itself. Azepur99®, our high purity azelaic acid, starts its life in a sunflower field.
A European, plant based supply chain
Azepur99® is produced from high oleic sunflower oil of European origin. The oleic acid derived from this oil is converted into azelaic acid, which is then purified and micronized to cosmetic specifications. The result is an ingredient that is 100% biobased, palm free and fully traceable back to its botanical source.
Why traceability matters
For cosmetic brands, ingredient stories increasingly need to hold up to scrutiny from retailers, certifiers and consumers. A traceable supply chain means questions about origin, processing and environmental impact can be answered with documentation instead of assumptions. It also supports certifications that matter in clean beauty, such as COSMOS approval.
Sustainability without compromise
A biobased origin only matters if the ingredient also performs. Azepur99® is specified at a purity of 99% or higher with a controlled particle size, so choosing the sustainable option does not mean accepting variability or reduced performance. Green chemistry and high specifications go hand in hand.
Sustainability runs through our whole portfolio, from biobased azelaic acid to upcycled microalgae actives. Read more about our approach to sustainability or discover Azepur99®.
